MP backs biodiesel tax break project

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for business who produce biodiesel.

Producers transforming cooking oil into biodiesel currently benefit from a 20p but that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been meeting the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of small companies in Cornwall currently earn money from used cooking oil".

He included: "In order to be able to get this sort of market going it does need simply a bit of lift which is available in the form of tax foregone."

Biodiesel is a mix of conventional diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
